Freeriding and downholl in South Tyrol

They are not legal and also not official, the trails, that the German freeride magazine published in its March issue. Because freeriding and downhill is considered as marginal discipline in South Tyrol and is accordingly neglected.

Who is not pedaling isn't a cyclist. That is the slogan of the bigger part of bikers in South Tyrol. But pedaling is only possible one asphalted lanes or on wide forest tracks. Only few persons can understand that is much more thrilling and exiting riding down a single trail as pedaling upwards.

Nevertheless there are some freeriders and downhillers in South Tyrol and they don’t get intimidated about freeride opposers. They built some nice trails in the surroundings of Bozen and Meran which are all available by cable car. Upwards-cycling isn’t a must.

So also the tourism boards, hotels and pensions in South Tyrol recognize the possibilities of freeride tourism. The hotels offer fair prices and fair conditions, which also the cable cars owners do.

The main reason to come here to South Tyrol is, that here freeriders can bike already in February. Sure, South Tyrol is not comparable with big freeride areas as Willingen in Germany. But here freeride-beginners find some hidden trails where they can test themselves and their bikes.
